Comoros Close the Gap After Beating Central African Republic 2–0

Comoros secured a vital 2-0 victory over the Central African Republic on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match held at Stade d’Honneur in Meknes, Morocco. This win boosted Comoros’ hopes of making their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Captain Youssouf M’Changama and Myziane Maolida, both French-born players of Comoran descent, scored in the 20th and 39th minutes, respectively, giving Comoros their fifth victory in eight qualifiers. The victory moved Comoros to second place in Group I, just one point behind the leaders Ghana, tightening the race for qualification. Comoros currently stand as the fourth-best second-placed team in Africa, giving them a strong chance for a World Cup play-off spot.

The match was played in Morocco because the Central African Republic does not have a FIFA-approved stadium. With this result, Comoros have significantly enhanced their prospects for a maiden appearance at the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next year
